Google Maps tests electric car-specific sat-nav routes

Google Maps is one of the most popular apps in the world positioning system and now the company is looking to adapt its routes exclusively for electric vehicles to improve efficiency and maximize range. The system is still in development and is also aiming to provide the most fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly routes for petrol, diesel and hybrid vehicles.

First reported by 9to5Google, Google has uploaded a version of its Maps app to the Play Store, which includes several features detailing how the system might work. There are options for gasoline, diesel oil, electricity and mixture car owners to make sure you’re on the most efficient route – there may even be a setting to switch to a specific type of engine depending on the type of car you’re driving.

The difference between routes can be significant for electric and non-electric vehicles, as EVs are generally more efficient at lower speeds and internal combustion engine cars can achieve better MPG on motorways. It would make sense for the most fuel-efficient route to take into account not only the favorable driving speed, but also the actual road. This means routes can prioritize flat areas to increase vehicle efficiency.

Google Maps was able to provide a variety of routes depending on certain criteria like freeway avoidance, toll roads, and live events like traffic. The new system also has best route coverage that incorporates charging stops for electric vehicles (and fuel stations for non-electric vehicles).

It is reported that the US company’s latest feature is currently in beta testing, and there is no word on when it will go public, although it may launch in certain markets. early next year.
