Google “digs” Apple Intelligence at Pixel 9 launch event, promotes Gemini AI features
Google launched its long-awaited Pixel 9 series at its Made by Google event on August 13. While Google showcased its latest flagship phones and AI features, it also used the launch event to indirectly criticize Apple’s AI, which is expected to debut alongside the upcoming iOS 18 update. All Pixel 9 series phones are powered by Google’s Gemini AI technology, and while introducing the features, the tech giant left its biggest rival in awe.

How Google indirectly mocked Apple
It’s worth recalling that Apple faced scrutiny after revealing that its AI features would rely on OpenAI’s ChatGPT for some functions like generating text from scratch or creating realistic content or handling requests like creating recipes.
On the other hand, Google claims that Gemini is capable of answering complex queries and does not hand off the task to another AI service. “Gemini is deeply integrated with Google and Android apps and can handle complex queries without handing them off to third-party AI providers you may not know or trust,” Google said during the launch event, indirectly criticizing Apple’s plans to add ChatGPT integration to Siri.

Apple Could Soon Get Help From Google Gemini
It’s worth noting that ChatGPT’s integration with Apple Intelligence is entirely optional. If Siri fails to pass on a user’s request, it will ask for permission to pass it on to ChatGPT. If the rumors are true, Apple could also include Gemini integration on the iPhone. This would give iPhone users the option to choose their preferred AI service. None of the tech giants have hinted at any of these partnerships, so we’d advise you to take them with a grain of salt.
