Google been working on adding a built-in RSS reader to the Chrome browser for a while. The company introduced an RSS reader in Chrome for Android last year, and a new development suggests the feature could be rolling out to desktop and ChromeOS soon.

About Chromebooks also contacted Google Chrome Engineer Adriana Porter Felt about ‘Web Feeds’ related to RSS Feeds and she confirmed the feature. She added that the new Google Reader will be able to pull feeds even from websites that don’t support RSS feeds.
Although there are a number of tools available to manage content from websites that support RSS feeds. However, it’s good to see that Google is planning to go further by adding the ability to pull feeds from sites that are not compatible with RSS.

Felt also mentioned that the mobile version of the Chrome RSS Feed is also due to some improvements ahead of the desktop launch.
The engineer also said that this feature is a work in progress and that the mobile version needs to be improved before it is available on the desktop. The target appears to be Chrome 106, which is set to be released in late September.
It’s also important to note that Google Chrome’s RSS Reader engine is currently being tested in Chrome’s 106 Dev Channel build alongside ChromeOS Dev Channel. However, it is disabled by default and requires manual activation.
