Good to soft conditions predicted for Cheltenham Festival opening match | Racing news

Extra watering at Cheltenham has been halted with conditions close to the target of good to soft for the start of the Festival on Tuesday.

The first two days were run on the Old Course, where the track was described as good to soft, soft in places after four millimeters of rain fell on Saturday night.

However, the next measurable downpour is likely to come Wednesday, with Thursday and Friday expected to be dry and light.

The new pitch, where the races take place on Thursday and Friday, are in gentle places, from good to soft. The last watering is on Friday.

Course secretary Jon Pullin, who oversaw his First Festival, said: “We’re definitely not watering at the moment and we’ll be monitoring the conditions and seeing how dry it is before putting it out. make any decisions about further watering.”

“Given our current position and the forecast going forward, we’ll be somewhere between good and soft to start the meeting.

“We forecast mostly dry today. Risk of a small but insignificant shower. Then dry tomorrow, dry Tuesday with temperatures around 13” -14 degrees Celsius.

“There’s a bit of rain on the radar on Wednesday at the moment, so we’re keeping an eye on that. Right now it looks like 2-3mm and Thursday and Friday looks dry and bright and sunny and temperatures up to 14C. It doesn’t seem like there’s any rain around.”
