Golovkin has to push Canelo back like Bivol says Tom Loeffler

Via Sean Jones: Motivator Tom Loeffler says it is important for Gennadiy Golovkin to regularly push Canelo Alvarez back to his offense in the same way that Dmitry Bivol did if he wants to beat the Mexican star on May 17. 9.

WBA light heavyweight champion Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs) used a combination of punches and a jab to knock Canelo away from him.

Even the way Bivol overwhelmed Canelo with his pressure, all 3 referees scored the first 4 innings for the Mexican star.

Golovkin will need to keep an eye on Bivol’s blueprints for the letter and hope that the judging panel is a quality team for the night.

“With Canelo, you have to recognize Bivol. From the fight that GGG had against Canelo, Bivol weighed more than 15 lbs. So naturally, he has the physical advantage and the size advantage,” promoter Tom Loeffler told. SlothBoxx about Dmitry Bivol using his size to beat Canelo Alvarez last May.

“What Bivol did to make scoring easier was he was actually headbutting Canelo back, getting in front like a bigger man, and being able to push Canelo back. That’s really what GGG has to do at this point.

“The difference in this match is at 168,” said Loeffler, of the match between Canelo and Golovkin III. “The reason Canelo gave when he vacated the WBC belt and didn’t fight GGG for the first time when it was asked in 2016 was that he was trying to convince people that he wasn’t middleweight.

“Even though he’s a middleweight champion, he’s a middleweight because he just beat Cotto. So he dropped to 154 specifically for that reason, trying to convince fans that he’s not middleweight.

“He fought Liam Smith, if you remember that game, but he fought at 175. So the argument that it’s not middleweight has long been out the window.

“Now, at 168, it becomes very interesting. Canelo after losing to Bivol had to drop from 175. GGG can move to 168 lbs, Abel and Johnathon both say he was always a lot stronger at 168 before he dropped to 160 lbs. I think that would be an interesting dynamic.

Not just a third fight, but a fight in a different weight class, I think that gives GGG an advantage moving up to 168 lbs,” said Loeffler.
