He told ABC Gold Coast: “Was engrossed in his mate and it went under the water and drowned.

“It appears he was drinking in the afternoon and the fatal mix of alcohol and water appears to have taken another victim, unfortunately.”

The man was pulled out of the water unconscious before bystanders performed CPR to try to revive him.

Emergency services later arrived at the scene but were unable to resuscitate him.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said the man was dead by the time paramedics arrived at the golf course.

The police are making a report for the investigator.

The golf course was reopened with golfers spotted playing on the lawn early Monday morning.
