Godolphin Double in Bahrain as Turf Series continues

Coach Charlie Appleby and jockey Richard Mullen teamed up to give Godolphin a racing double in Bahrain. The first win came at the £60,000 Anchorman Cup when King of Conquerors (GB) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) broke the record to take home the first win for ‘Blue Boys’ in this season’s Bahrain Turf Series. They will win the Crown Prince Cup listed later on the card with Warren Score (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}). Mullen adjusted his horse to just the right speed and when asked, the 4-year-old showed the proper foot spin to win the lead.

“We hope upgrading King of Conquest to 9 feathers will work for him and provide even more improvement as it did,” Appleby said. “The ground was fast enough for him, so it was a brave performance.”

In the second Bahrain Turf Series race of the day, the Hawar Cup, Deep Conspiracy (GB) (Dark Angel {Ire}) has returned to form. Trained in England by Mark Johnston, his new outfit, directed by Hesham Al Haddad, brought him back after more than a year off to win against young Omani driver Anas bin Salim Al Siyabi in the iron battle.
