GISW Gretzky the great retired to return to Ocala

GISW Gretzky the Great (Nyquist) is retired and will stand for the upcoming breeding season at Ocala Stud, the farm announced today.

Campaigned by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Gary Barber and coached by Mark Casse, Gretzky the Great received Woodbine’s GI Summer S. at the age of 2.

A $295,000 fall in Fasig-Tipton Kentucky, Gretzky the Great broke her maidenhood in her second Woodbine start-up. He then won the Soaring Free S. before winning the GI Summer S., finishing his season with a sixth place in the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. At the age of three, he won the Greenwood S. and finished third in the John Battaglia Memorial S. before retiring with a record of 11-4-2-1 and earning $379,866.
