Giants’ success takes heat off underperforming WRs Toney, Golladay

The Giants are leading 2-0 and their fans are buzzing like a 10-year-old who just had a gallon of Blue Raspberry Icees. Brian Daboll can’t go wrong. Daniel Jones and the rest of Joe Judge-David Gettleman are really the things holding the team back. If only they could get some productions from Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney, they could compete for a spot of Wild Card. The defense is solid and of indefinable quality, a veritable whole of its parts.

I received it, along with 50 other text messages on the Giants text string. The scent wafting out of New York no longer smells of a garbage day at the end of August. All it took to change the culture over the last 5 years was two wins against terrible mediocre teams. Daboll’s decision to pick two in Week 1 is considered genius in hindsight, but if Saquon Barkley doesn’t make a game with the shovel pass, gambling will be widely encouraged.

The win over Carolina did not require a 13-down return, which was seen as an improvement. They had a knack for fumbling in Panther’s opening game and follow-up game, but went away with two conspicuous goals. If Baker Mayfield had played better below average, the four goals the Giants scored would have been lamented for not being goals.

That’s not what happened and everyone can laugh when the randos catch a handful of change from Dimes. Richie James led the team in receiving the ball, David Sills V made three passes from 37 yards, and the only player everyone heard of to catch a touch was Sterling Shepard. (Raise your hand if you know Daniel Bellinger and Chris Myarick, the other two guys will be joining the TDs this season.)

Golladay, he’s on a four-year, $72 million deal, played twice on Sunday. It’s unclear how Toney’s hamstring was injured, but he was a first-round pick a year ago, appearing flashy and had two touchdowns – both runs – all season. New GM Joe Schoen’s second-round pick, recipient of Wan’Dale Robinson from Kentucky, sidelined Carolina with injury after catching a 5-meter pass in the opener.

Golladay, who was permanently injured, remained healthy; he doesn’t play. Rumor has it he emptied his locker after Sunday’s game, but Julian Love, who has a locker next to Golladay, indicates that the recipient is “locked” and “continues with his work.” He did admit it was a “strange situation” and that was the problem.

Everything from New York about Daboll’s staffing decisions depicts a meritorious regime that offers nothing to any player no matter how much they are paid. I understand the motivation behind that thought process, and largely agree with his approach. The team went 4-13 last year, so no one deserves the favor.

However, if the ball doesn’t bounce Daboll’s way a few times in the first two competitions, he gets a Nathaniel Hackett deal. Maybe not so bad – Hackett comes across as someone who knows all the special moves in Mortal Kombat but panic and resort to squeezing the button in the real process. Despite that, there will still be laments from the New York media about the poor two-point conversion and too many goals when combined with the studio and everything else (including draft picks). top five Kayvon Thibodeaux sat out the first two games with a wound goal).

It is out there that Daboll is FaceTiming with free agent wide receiver, and that’s kind of related to them having all the camps to figure this out. There’s a lot of pace and play between Toney, Robinson and Golladay. Whether Jones can use it or not is another matter, but at least the coach has to try to make it work.

The Giants have a 364-yard pass this season, good for fourth-worst in the NFL. Cowboys backup starter Cooper Rush wandered from Pecan Lodge with his breast still under his fingernails and threw more yards over Bengal than Jones did with the Titans or Panthers.

In the end, the Giants will need to cover 200 meters to win a game. Will Daboll woo a monstrous Gettleman, and deprive him of his QB weapon to purposefully end the Jones era in New York? The last couple of years it’s all revolved around Jones with a cast – off the critical front line – that’s too good to fail, and it feels like Daboll is arming his back four with a spur, a pointed stick, and Saquon.

After what felt like a series of passes and draws from the third screen, I enjoyed the attacking creativity injected into this iteration of the Giants football. I loved the action debut with Barkley in the apartment in seasons 3 and 6, which gave Jones options to win over Carolina. The shovel pass to convert two points was the ball but was done just enough to allow Barkley to cause a defender to miss.

Daboll has the qualities of a good coach. To advance into a great trainer, he needs to maximize all the resources on the list even if he has to wipe off Gettleman and Judge’s greasy fingerprints.
