Giants sign QB Tyrod Taylor

The Giants were looking for a premium backup for Daniel Jones, and they apparently found one. The team is signing midfielders Tyrod Taylorreports Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network (via Twitter).

Taylor is signing a two-year, $17 million deal, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter (on Twitter). QB will receive $8.5 million in guarantees.

The Giants are said to be in the market for a player who can provide some competition in the QB room, with Mitchell Trubisky among their targets before he landed in Pittsburgh. This logic makes sense; Jones has been inconsistent in his three seasons in the NFL. He has a 4-7 lead at the start of 2021, and while he’s completed 64.3% of his career-highest passes, he’s also hit just 10 touchdowns compared to 7 hits. block out. While the team has committed to Jones for next season, they also want to give him some competition.

So to Taylor. The veteran joined the Texas team last year, and he already made six starts for his new team. He went 2-4 in these competitions, completing 60.7% of his passes for 966 yards, five touchdowns, and five interceptions. He scored another 151 yards and 3 touchdowns on 19 attempts. There are some familiar with QB and front office; New Giants GM Joe Schoen hung out with Taylor while they were both in Buffalo.

While the sound of the Texans is set with Davis Mills As their quarterback in 2022, the team was really interested in retaining Taylor. Earlier this week, we heard that Houston was impressed by QB’s professionalism and ability to mentor the team’s young defenders.
