Former Parliament Leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Sunday said that only Congress can challenge Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh assembly elections, while Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) “merely” is a party of UT Delhi”.

Months after exiting a decades-long association with the Congress party, Mr Azad said he was not against secularization but the party’s weak party system.

While speaking to the ANI in Srinagar, he said, “Although I have separated from Parliament, I am not against their policy of secularism. It is only because the party system is weakening. I still want the National Assembly to do well in Gujarat and HP Council Polls. AAP is not capable of doing so.”

Showing confidence in Parliament, he said the party would appeal to everyone, Hindu and Muslim farmers. He says Aam Aadmi Party cannot do anything in these states, they have failed in Punjab and Punjabi people will not vote for them anymore.

In a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party, Mr. Azad said that “AAP is merely a party of UT Delhi. They cannot run Punjab effectively, only Congress can challenge the BJP in Gujarat. and Himachal Pradesh because they have an inclusive policy.”

In his resignation letter to Sonia Gandhi, he targeted the party leadership, especially Rahul Gandhi, in the way the party has been run for almost nine years.
