Nikolas CruzThe man who mercilessly shot 17 people dead in 2018 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., has been sentenced to life in prison without parole, according to reports. CNN. Judge Elizabeth Scherer sentenced Nikolas on Tuesday, November 2 after jurors pardoned him from the death penalty last month. In October 2021, Nikolas pleaded guilty to killing 14 students and 3 teachers with an AR-15 rifle on Valentine’s Day more than 4 years ago.

In total, Nikolas was sentenced to life in prison for each of the 34 counts of murder and attempted murder. The verdict comes after two days of heartbreaking and emotional statements from victims and family members of the horrific shooting. Before sentencing, Judge Scherer thanked those who spoke for their commitment, patience and perseverance. “The way you grieve gracefully and show extraordinary restraint throughout this process is something I have never seen,” she said.
