Georgia Governor Brian Kemp Signes Bill That Lets Most Residents Carry Concealed Weapons Without a License
On Tuesday, Governor of Georgia Brian Kemp signed into law a bill that would allow most residents to carry concealed weapons without a permit. The bill, which supporters are calling “bringing the constitution,” passed legislation back on April 1.
Based on CNN, those who were previously eligible for a concealed practice license can now carry concealed weapons without a permit. However, the law does not apply to people prohibited from owning a firearm, including those with felony convictions and minors. Weapons inside airports and secure government buildings are still not allowed.
Governor Kemp said he believes the legislation will allow residents to “fend for themselves without having to get permission from your state government.” The bill officially goes into effect upon his signature.

The Atlanta Constitution Magazine reports that he signed the bill outside Gable Sporting Goods in Douglasville, where he bought his daughter’s first handgun.
He told reporters, “People don’t have to bring them if they don’t want to. But this is the constitutional authority that people have, and they certainly shouldn’t have a piece of paper from the government to be able to legally carry a weapon.”
It is clear that the necessary background checks will have to be performed when purchasing a firearm from a store or dealer.
The state licensing process will remain in place as it will allow Georgians to engage in “reciprocal” gun-carrying with other states, described as “an agreement that allows owners to gun owners carry handguns in states that offer similar rights. ”
