George Kambosos and Maxi Hughes have completed the deal for the summer fight in Australia
Via Craig Daly: Former IBF, WBA, WBO & Ring Magazine lightweight champions George Kambosos Jr and Maxi Hughes have signed on to meet this summer in Australia.
Mike Coppinger reports the news of 29-year-old Kambosos Jr (20-2, 10 KOs) fighting lightweight contender #12 WBC (26-5-2.5 KOs) next. For Kambosos Jr, 29, it will be his first match since losing to Devin Haney for the second time last October.
Kambosos desperately needs a win to keep his career going, as he hasn’t won a game in two years since his win over Teofimo Lopez in November 2021.
Hughes, 33, has been looking impressive lately, having won his last seven games since losing to Liam Walsh in 2019. Over the past three years, Hughes has beaten Jono Carroll, Patrick Hyland Jr, Jovanni Straffon, Ryan Walsh and Kid Galahad.
Hughes looks hard to beat right now and he might be too much for Kambosos Jr. If Kambosos loses this match, he will need to decide if it is worth continuing his career as it will be his third loss in a row.
“I feel really refreshed. I’ve been really active, especially in a year where I’ve had three fights with some good people,” George Kambosos Jr told fight.

“I yearn for more. What I have achieved, it is not enough for me. Someone looks at it from the outside, they say he has achieved a lot. For me, a hungry warrior like me, I want more.
“I have a point to prove, so whoever I face next will be in trouble. I had some bad intentions. ‘Ferocious’ is making a comeback. I will fight tomorrow. You saw how I scrimmed yesterday. I am very sharp and get better with time.
“At the age of 29, I feel very good. Whoever I confront next, they’re in trouble. You never want to lose. I’m undefeated and have won all the belts, but that’s part of the game. When you fight your best, that’s part of the game.
“It sucks, but I only lost to one guy, and that guy wasn’t just Joe Blow, an ordinary boxer, a cherry picker. He is a super boxer. I was motivated from there, from the experience and lessons I’ve learned, and I’m just a better boxer all around.
“To some extent it stinks, but I am hungry and motivated to make a statement in the next game to show that I am still here. I will be better. I felt better. You saw me practice a lot before the game against Haney, before the game [Teofimo] López fights. I am better, much more calculated and sharper, stronger, more explosive and you learn more.
“What you fight the best, you learn from, sharpen your blade. My blade is sharp. Like I said, whoever I fought next, not only did they get into trouble, I saw everything and anything. I witnessed it all,” Kambosos Jr.
