George Clooney has hailed Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the presidential race as the most selfless act a president has done since George Washington.
The actor, one of the Democratic Party’s top fundraisers, previously urged Mr Biden not to run for re-election in an opinion piece in the New York Times.
He said the president was now a shadow of himself and wrote that “we will not win in November with this president.”
Nearly two weeks later, Mr Biden has stepped aside.
Mr Clooney was answering questions from reporters at the Venice Film Festival, where he was promoting his latest film.
