Garrett Hedlund is being sued for a car crash that took place the night of his DUI 2020 arrest.
The actor, 36, is being accused of crashing into another car – containing a woman and three children – unconscious from being drunk behind the wheel of his Jeep and running a red light.
The family alleges that Hedlund – whose blood alcohol level on the night in question was more than double the statutory limit of 0.08 – tried to flee the scene without calling an ambulance.

In court documents obtained by PEOPLE, the actor’s conduct was deemed ‘despicable’.
‘Hedlund’s conduct was despicable in that he knew and was educated about the possible dangers to Plaintiffs and the public when he was driving a vehicle while intoxicated,’ the complaint reads.
The complaint also describes a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the The Tron: Legacy actor.
‘There was a strong smell of brandy emanating from Hedlund’s breath, body and the Jeep’s cabin despite the open/broken windows,’ it read.
The complaint goes on to say that the star attempted to get rid of ‘opened wine bottles’ Alcoholic beverages’ were in the vehicle before the police arrived.
The victim’s family also claimed that he tried to flee the scene and had to pull out his car keys to make sure he wouldn’t leave.

Hedlund was arrested on two DUI counts in February 2020. After his arrest, the actor was placed in order later that month and was able to bail on $100k bond.
The Tron: Legacy actor was sentenced to 36 months of probation, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court documents obtained by Page Six.
Hedlund was then assigned three days of community service to one of the counts. The second accusation was dismissed.
In addition, he was required to enroll in the first inmate drug education and counseling program that lasted nine months.
His team says Hedlund has not resisted seeking intervention for his substance abuse, according to Page Six. ‘When the incident occurred, Garrett immediately sought treatment and was successful. Today, he’s in a solid and great place,’ the rep told the outlet.
The arrest came as the actor was expecting his first child with actress Emma Roberts, 30. She went on to give birth to their son Rhodes in late 2020.
The couple has since broken up.
