Gareth A Davies Talks ‘Jeopardy’ To Eubank Jr Before Battle Of Benn

Telegraph boxing reporter Gareth A Davies has stated that he believes weight loss is the main cause of Chris Eubank Jr’s anxiety ahead of his big fight with Conor Benn on October 8.

In an interview with Social boxingDavies says he believes the weight of 157lbs, a weight that Eubank Jr has never reached before, could allow Benn to have success in the later stages of their historic meeting at 02.

“The danger for Chris is that he has to seriously lose weight, and he can’t gain more than the 5 or 6lbs I understand from 157.

So he’s going to be really tense – and Benn could have been strong in that skirmish if Eubank hadn’t wounded him soon enough.

It’s a fight that I enjoy.”

However, Eubank Jr himself doesn’t seem to believe that weight is a concern. The 32-year-old was spotted eating a bucket of KFC chicken during a KSI vs Swarmz match over the weekendand was adamant that, while the cut will stop him 100% on the night of teamfights, he will still have enough to deal with Benn with ease.

Due to the size disparity between the two men – with Benn being welterweight and Eubank Jr having fought in super middleweight – the issue of weight was one of the heated discussions. A clause enforcing a $100,000 fine for every 1lb above the reported agreed-upon limit exists in the contractand many have speculated that Eubank may have intentionally dropped some of his wallets to enter the ring during peak conditions.

With both men fighting for their family’s legacy as well as their own, it should come as no surprise to see them try to gain every advantage possible – that is through mind games. The brain is promoted quickly or on the scale.
