In Garden Galaxy, you arrange randomly assigned pots, plants, furniture and decorations into your own fun little setting. I spent a satisfied evening with it a few weeks ago, fiddling with the shape of my dwarves’ water feature and angle.
If you like tinkering and cleaning, I think you’ll love it too, and this week it received an important new update with more items to play with.
The bounty update adds two new sets, over 50 new items, and “area selection”, according to Announcement on Steam. The last one is important. In Garden Galaxy, you get items by dropping a coin into a fire, and although the coin type affects the item type, the exact item you get is random. If you don’t like the item, you can exchange it, but I often see me do I love that item but I don’t have a place to put it yet.
Given a lot of sorting, stacking, and organizing, that’s part of the fun of this, but being able to drag-select all areas of items at once seems like it would make the whole thing worse. the process is pleasantly more efficient.
In addition to the 50 new items spread across all existing sets, there are two brand new sets: the Rainbow set, which contains “a variety of special items” and can be obtained with the new Rainbow coins; and the Market suite, which includes “outdoor markets and food items.” You can find a list of “notable” new items and features in the Steam news post, but they’re right after the spoiler text because part of the fun of Garden Galaxy lies in discovering new items. cute new thing.
I should add, when talking about “coins”, that there is no microtransaction here. It’s a fictional economy of coins delivered by ghosts in the garden, and they’re balanced to create a pleasant surprise rather than some sort of gachapon nightmare. Garden Galaxy is also currently 20% off and hence £6.39/$8 from steam.
