Game Infarcer: Horizon Forbidden West Nominated for Game of The Week Award

In an effort to bolster his awards program, host Geoff Keighley announced a bold new category for the 2022 Game Awards: Game of the Week.

“This prestigious award recognizes exceptional titles that push the boundaries of game design and capture the attention and imagination of players for up to seven days,” explains Keighley.

Guerilla Games’ Horizon Forbidden West scored its first nomination. The well-received sequel to Aloy’s 2017 adventures took the gaming world by storm until it suddenly happened, thanks to Elden Ring – a critically-acclaimed game. most in permanent history – stole its thunder (jaw) a week later.

While a nomination seems plausible, and the fact that the awards are months away, that hasn’t stopped journalists and influencers from weighing whether Horizon is worthy of the award, and Speculation about other titles might counter it.

“I think it’s worth it,” said critic Josh Pardue. “I really enjoyed roaming the beautiful landscape of Forbidden West atop my robot horse until the Elden Ring showed up. Now all I think about is From Software’s opus magnum. I still love Horizon, but now I can’t help but wonder why my robot horse can’t jump twice either. Shouldn’t it have rocket claws or something? ”

“Um, no one saves the world, anyone?” tweeted on Twitch streamer ChristiePlayz. “That game was a hit and didn’t even go unnoticed for an hour before being completely buried by Xbox buying a problematic publisher for billions of dollars. No one should have won this award.”

Meanwhile, From Software mastermind Hidetaka Miyazaki cryptically congratulated Guerilla Games on Twitter by tweeting a winking emoji accompanied by a photo of him posing with a gift-wrapped object suspicious GOTY image.

Game of the Week isn’t the only premature nomination that Guerilla can brag about. The company as a whole was also the first studio to be nominated for a Lifetime Achievement award for helping usher in two of the greatest games of all time: Elden Ring and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
