Colorado Avalanche Striker Gabriel Landeskog is expected to miss the start of the 2022-23 season with a lower-body injury, The Athletic’s Peter Baugh reported on Thursday.
Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar told reporters Landeskog “won’t be skating anytime soon” while recovering from his injury. At this point, it is unclear when he will likely return.
Landeskog, 29, scored 30 goals and 59 points in 51 games with the Avalanche in the 2021-22 regular season. He added 11 goals and 22 points in 20 playoffs as the Avalanche won their third Stanley Cup.
In addition to Landeskog, Darren Helm (lower body), Valeri Nichushkin (lower body), and Josh Manson (personal reasons) did not train with Avalanche on Thursday.
With Landeskog not on the ice, Avalanche gourd deployed Artturi Lehkonen and Alex Galchenyuk as their top left flanks during Thursday’s skating game.
Galchenyuk, 28 years old, is participating in the Avalanche training camp during a pro practice session. The No. 3 player in 2012 scored six goals and 21 points in 60 games against the Arizona Coyotes last season.
Lehkonen, 27, won the Stanley Cup with Avalanche three months ago after being acquired by the Canadian Canadianiens on a trading deadline in 2022. The 5-foot-11-year-old Finn has scored eight goals and 14 points in 20 games in Avs playoff stage.
Ben Meyers and Andrew Cogliano also skated on the left wing in the main group during Thursday’s Avalanche training camps.
