Via Charles Brun: Tyson Fury has confirmed that he will retire after successfully defending his WBC heavyweight title against Dillian Whyte on Saturday night at Wembley Stadium, in London.
In the sixth round, Fury caught Whyte with a right butt that knocked him over.
Dillian, 34, was severely injured then climbed out of the tarp and staggered back, but was unable to continue. The match was then stopped at 2:59 of the sixth inning by referee Mark Lyson.
The massive 6’9″ (32-0-1, 23 KOs) Fury used his hit to keep the shorter, slower Whyte (28-3, 19 KOs) outside all night.
When Whyte is in range, Fury will expertly wrap him to keep him from getting shot. Everything else is Rinse and repeat for the rest of the war.
It’s boring to watch, and certainly can’t be compared to Anthony Joshua or Oleksandr Usyk’s recent bout last September. Speaking of those, Fury later made it clear that he’s not interested in staying to fight winner Joshua vs. Usik II.
After the fight, Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs) let the media know he was retiring and plan to organize boxing exhibition matches like Floyd Mayweather Jr. to make easy money. Fury also said that he wants to do WWE. Obviously, these are things with a short shelf life.
Fury can do easy coin Initially, he sold matches in his exhibition, but that’s not something he can last long before the crowds become sparse, especially if he puts heavier weights.
As it stands, Fury’s supple build resembles a father’s body tonight and looks noticeably slower than the relatively slim 247-lb version of himself that defeated Wladimir Klitschko keeper in 2015.

Tyson should be able to make good money fighting Ngannou, but it’s still disappointing that he’s more restricted to fighting a non-boxer than continuing to fight the winner of the bout rematch Joshua vs. Usik.
Fury then bragged as if he’s had a great career, but in reality, he’s mostly only fought beatables. Dillian Whyte looks like a larger version of the journeyman Derek Chisora tonight, and you can see why 40-year-old Alexander Povetkin took him down in 2020.
Fury choosing to retire without fighting Joshua or Usyk will be seen by fans as move duck for my part because those guys were much better than anyone Tyson had beaten. Joshua knocked out Wladimir in 2017.
Usyk will dominate Whyte if he is in the ring tonight. You could argue that Usyk would make it a lot more interesting if he fought Dillian than Fury, who looks slow, weak, and average.
