What is the best compact SUV/crossover under Rs 10 lakh to replace my 2014 Ford Ecosport automatic? I needed a car with basic features like power windows, power mirrors and a music system. The car will be used in the city, only for short distances.

Autocar India says: The automatic options you get for under Rs 10 lakh are the Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Tata Punch. Of these, the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger have a powerful 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a CVT (automatic), which is the nicest and smoothest combination of city driving. These cars are also well equipped and since they are based on the same platform they feel quite similar behind the wheel. Between the two, choose whichever you think looks better.
But if you want to look beyond these, then the Maruti Fronx is a great choice. It is dressed to impress; it’s spacious and quite practical. The under Rs 10 lakh version has a really nice and efficient 1.2-litre petrol engine, with the only highlight being the automatic manual transmission (AMT), which isn’t nearly as smooth as the Magnite and Kiger’s CVTs, or even Ecosport’s dual-clutch transmission.
The Tata Punch is the most affordable, however, like the Maruti, it uses slow-responsive AMT which, combined with the lackluster performance of the 1.2-litre petrol engine, doesn’t feel as good as the three. remaining.
