Friends believe Meghan Mahrone was being stalked before she mysteriously disappeared

It will be five months that a beloved high school English teacher Meghan Marohn disappeared without a trace.

Marohn, 42, left her home in Delmar, New York, a suburb located near Albany, to The Red Lion Inn located in Stockbridge, Massachusetts for some alone time.

She arrived at the historic inn on March 24th and planned to return on March 30 but hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

Mahron’s brother Peter Naple told DailyMail.com on Thursday that the last time he spoke with his sister was on March 26.

He said they spoke in the afternoon and she appeared to be in ‘good spirits. He said they texted again later that night and she responded.

But, the next day Naple said his sister never responded to any of his texts message or calls.

He called the inn to find out if she had gotten back safely and when they checked her room her belongings – books, candles, toiletries, clothes, toothbrush – were there but she was not.

Naple said that his sister was familiar with the area, and had stayed at The Red Lion Inn years prior.

He said the last person to see his sister, was an employee of the inn, who he said they gave her directions to Church Street around 10 am on the morning of March 27.

When his calls and texts went unanswered he filed a missing person’s report.

On March 29, a local resident had reported to police that a car with New York license plates had been sitting in the dirt parking lot for two days near the trailhead at Longcope Park, a 46-acre nature preserve off Church Street in Lee, Massachusetts.

Police identified the vehicle as a black 2017 Subaru Imprezza, belonging to Mahron.

Data from her cell phone and GPS tracking revealed that his sister never made it the trail to Longcope Park, but instead showed her near private property.

Naple thought it was strange.

‘It was suspect how her car was parked. It was pulled directly into trailhead blocking the entrance,’ he said. ‘Her car keys, hotel key, school issued laptop and a little stuffed animal she always traveled with was missing.’

He recalled the weather being miserable the day his sister drove away from rainy, stormy and snowy.

The Lee Massachusetts Police Department conducted a number of searches using helicopter drones and canine sniffing dogs, in the area of the South Lee trailhead off Church Street, and beyond.

Search teams also looked along the Housatonic River corridor from Lee and into Stockbridge, and the Glendale area, traveling on kayaks, and using side-scan sonar and underwater cameras.

Naple said his sister vehicle was processed for DNA and fingerprints but, he said they are still awaiting the results.

‘Her credit cards haven’t been used. Her bank account doesn’t show any activity,’ he said. ‘It’s as if she vanished into thin air.’

When Mahron first went missing, Lee Police Chief Craig Desantis did a press conference claiming at the time that that there is ‘no evidence to suspect foul play.’

He also said he ‘won’t speculate on whether Marohn had been stalked.’

DailyMail.com contacted the Lee Police Department but they did not respond to our multiple requests for an update on the case.

‘I think they [the police] believed she would be found but as time has passed with the amount of searching that has gone on and nothing has come they are looking at it differently,’ Naple said.

‘They still haven’t said that they suspect foul play and it is just a missing person’s case.’

Naple said he took six-weeks off work when she first went missing and continues to drive up to the area she was last seen from his home in Northville, New York, that is about two-and-half hours away from the trailhead.

‘It’s been difficult for my dad and I,’ he said. ‘Its something that comes up everyday. We need to find her and bring her home.’

Naple created a 24-Hour Tip Hotline, for those who are not comfortable calling the police.

He also created the website Find Meghan Marohn, and has circulated her photo and information on different social media platforms to spread the word. He also put up a $50,000 reward.

He created a GoFundMe and the money he has raised has gone towards the Berkshire Mountain Rescue, a group that is made up mostly of volunteers, have been keeping the search for his sister alive, and for a private investigator.

About six weeks ago, he said the FBI Behavioral Analysis unit has gotten involved in his sister’s disappearance as well.

The tips that have been coming into the hotline haven’t been anything that has brought any type of closure yet, he explained.

‘The scenarios are endless,’ he said. ‘Do I suspect foul play? Is it on my radar. Yes.’ Is it possible she got abducted. Yes. Did she get injured? Did she hit her head?’

Chris Hedges, a writer friend of Mahron, described her as a ‘gifted poet and writer,’ with a ‘mass of thick red hair.

‘She was literate, she cared deeply about her students,’ he said.

He said his friend only shopped at thrift stores and was someone who ‘could never come to grips with the cruelty of the world.’

Last month, he wrote a story about her disappearance that ran in The Berkshire Eagle.

'She was a very sensitive soul, a spiritual person who was very concerned about climate change, the state of the world, social consciousness,' Ruth Ross, 82 said. 'She was my daughter, my friend that is what breaks my heart and what is breaking our hearts. Did she trust somebody? I don't know. It's like she went away in a poof of smoke.'

Did she trust somebody? I don’t know. It’s like she went away in a poof of smoke.’

He also wrote that days before her mysterious disappearance she confided to a few friend that she had gone into hiding to escape from a man who had ‘brutally harrassed and intimidate  her because she wouldn’t sleep with them.’

Naple told DailyMail.com that his sister had taken a leave of absence from work because of an incident that happened that really upset her regarding a co-worker who was married.

He said she was making advances at her and acting inappropriate.

‘She told me briefly that there was an incident that happened at work with a male coworker. When his advances were cut off he didn’t like it,’ Naple said. ‘It really bothered her and she brought it to the attention of her superiors. This person is still working at the school.’

Naple said this person was interviewed by police and ‘he checked out okay.’

‘I don’t know the circumstances between them. I know that she was talking to some friends who told her to get away for a few days because of what was going on with her coworker.’

He also said that he doesn’t think his sister would take her life. ‘If Meghan was to do something like that she would have left a note because she is a writer.’

Ruth Ross, 82, a retired educator for 34 years, said she met Mahron when she was her student teacher in 2006.

She said that Mahron had a ‘mini nervous breakdown,’ in March due to what was happening at the school. She said she never saw the texts and emails that her coworker had sent her but she knew that he was ‘crossing the line,’ and ‘making suggestions.’

She said Mahron reported the coworker to the school district in January, but Ross said ‘she was triggered by their reaction,’ and confided in her telling her that she thought school officials were not giving her the support she needed, but in March, school officials granted her a paid leave of absence.

‘She told me on the morning of March 24 that she saw her coworkers car pass her house. She told me that she felt that he was stalking her. I told her to come stay by me instead of going to The Red Lion Inn, but she had a soft spot for the Inn,’ Ross said.
