Charles Leclerc will start in pole position for the French Grand Prix after a brilliant finalist overcame the threat of Max Verstappen.

Leclerc and Verstappen, who are locked in an intense title battle, are only 0.008 seconds apart to advance to the finish line but the Ferrari driver has found huge improvement when it matters most and takes the pole to three tenths.

Leclerc was helped by the pull of teammate Carlos Sainz – who will be at the bottom of the grid for Sunday’s race due to an engine penalty – and the result continues his new-found momentum as he bids. to eat into Verstappen’s 38-point lead.

Sergio Perez is third for Red Bull and he will be placed in second by Lewis Hamilton, although Mercedes has once again fallen short of expectations on the Paul Ricard lap.

Hamilton was the Silver Arrows lead but trailed Leclerc by 0.893 seconds, while George Russell was trailed by Lando Norris after Brit’s epic final attempt in the upgraded McLaren landed him in fifth.
