Freddie Freeman signs six-year, $162 million deal with Dodgers

Apparently Freddie Freeman didn’t return to the Braves; all we’re waiting to find out is which major market group he’s headed for instead.

Now, he is heading West – and going home in the process.

Freeman agreed to the terms of a six-year contract with the Dodgers, by Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan of ESPN. The deal is said to be worth $162 million.

It was a homecoming for Freeman, who grew up in Southern California. It was also his chance to enter the league that instantly became the best game in baseball, the league that looked like a multitude of All-Stars and two former MVPs in Mookie Betts and Cody Bellinger alongside Freeman, who won the NL MVP in 2020.

Freeman calculates to hit base first, although with universal DH passing, he can also see the time at the specified hitter. He’s likely going to step right into a leading role, trying to commit a crime in Los Angeles with Betts, Trea Turner, Max Muncy, etc.

Many believed Freeman would be one of the first major dominoes to go free after the course, but he took his time in the end. So much so that the Braves – his former team, who had apparently been bid out of a bidding war – exchanged for another star’s first defense in Matt Olson.

Freeman will forever remain a legend in Atlanta, as after 12 seasons he finally helped bring home a World Series title for the city last season. In those 12 years, Freeman recorded .295/.384/.509, founded a 271-host club and scored a RBI 941, good for five All-Star selections and three Silver Sluggers.
