Frankie Beverly, ‘Before I Let Go’ Singer, Dies at 77


Frankie BeverlyThe founder of funk band Maze and renowned soul singer, has died at the age of 77.

According to FOX 13 MemphisBeverly’s death, believed to have occurred on Tuesday, September 10, was announced by his family via social media on Wednesday, September 11.

“Grieving the loss of a loved one is a profound and emotional experience. During this time, as we navigate the emotions of grief, reflection, and remembrance, we ask for privacy and understanding, allowing us the space to grieve in our own way. This is a time of healing, and we appreciate your respect for your need for solitude as we remember our beloved Howard Stanley Beverly, known to the world as Frankie Beverly,” The family statement was read.

The family’s statement went on to explain that Beverly “lived her life with a pure soul.”

“…and for us, no one does it better,” continue statement. “He lived for music, family and friends.”

Finally, the statement ends by sharing one thing Beverly wants to say.[ed] for all of us.”

According to USA TodayBeverly originally formed the band Maze under the name “Raw Soul” in 1970. The group is credited with releasing multiple gold albums and became a household name with their 1981 single, ‘Before I Let Go.’

Nearly forty years later, Beyoncé sampled the song in the film ‘Homecoming’ and its “corresponding live album”.

“She did so much, this is one of the highlights of my life,” Beverly said. Billboard in April 2019 after the release of the book cover.

Most recently, Beverly and the band Maze embarked on a six-city tour called the “I Wanna Thank You Tour.” TMZThis tour will be Beverly’s last and officially ends in July.
