Francis Warren updates on possible rematch with Joyce-Dubois, State of Fury
Joe Joyce and Daniel Dubois may be on different career paths right now, but there’s still interest in seeing the two rematch in the future.
In November 2020 inside the unique setting of the Cathedral, Westminster, two Queensbury heavyweights fought organized a fascinating competition for British, Commonwealth and European titles.
Joyce won Dubois in the tenth inning after the young candidate was unable to continue due to an eye socket fracture.
Dubois currently holds the WBA ‘Regular’ title after recovering from its only loss to date. Joyce, the WBO number one contender, is finishing her first world championship shot and recently acted against Christian Hammer.
Their promoter Frank Warren hopes for a rematch in the futuremaybe even outdoors at a stadium.
His son, and boxing manager, Francis tells Boxing Social’s Ayman Khan that the fight could get bigger and bigger it is left alone.
“I think like most of the competition in this country if you let it hydrate a bit, especially with the history then, yeah [it can happen]. “
“The risk that you run is that both of you have to keep winning. As long as both people continue to win, it’s always an option for both of them. I think the longer it lasts the bigger it will be and more titles at stake. I think it will be a great rematch. “
One fighter Joyce would love to try is current WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.
Since his last win over Dillian Whyte in April, the ‘King of Gypsy’ has retired and then hinted that he would turn it down if he received a worthy offer for something.
Frank Warren co-promotes Fury alongside Top Rank and Francis says there’s no expectation the 31-year-old returns to boxing.
“I’ve said it a few times and I’ll never exaggerate when it comes to Tyson, nothing to expect. There is a hope. “
“I admire the man and so do everyone else. He is nothing but an inspiration and an absolute one-of-a-kind. I would love to see him again but whatever Tyson does is up to him. Fingers crossed him again fighting. Otherwise just enjoy everything else he does.”
