Four women officers make it to prestigious military college | India News


NEW DELHI: After receiving a permanent commission, female officers will now also enter the gates of the Defense Service Staff College in Wellington for the first time. Six female officers from Army passed the highly competitive entrance exam held in September.
Four female officers will participate in the prestigious year-long competition HSR of course, paving the way for higher ranks in the armed forces. Another female officer was placed on the “reservation list” for the Defense Services Technical Officer course, while a sixth was shortlisted for the Logistics and Administrative Management Course/ Intelligence Officer Course.
Overall, approximately 1,500 Army Major and Lieutenant Colonel rank officers take the annual exam to win 260 seats for the force in the three-Service DSSC. They include 22 female officers in the Army this year. The air Force there are about 80 seats and Navy 50 for the course, also attended by about 60 officers from other countries. DSSC graduates are awarded a master’s degree in strategic and defense studies from University of Madras.
“Of the four female officers selected for the DSSC, one who is the spouse of an officer has also passed the exam. They will be the first couple to take the course together at Wellington, which will begin next month. 4 in 2023,” an officer said.
