Four killed in shooting near mosque in Muscat
Four people have been killed in a shooting near a mosque in the Omani capital Muscat, police said.
In a brief statement, they said “several” people were also injured in the al-Wadi al-Kabir area.
A statement on Tuesday said police responded to the incident and an investigation is now underway.
Police did not provide further details, but some reports said at least one gunman opened fire with an assault rifle.
“All security measures have been put in place to deal with the situation and evidence collection procedures are being completed as part of the investigation,” a police statement said.
Such violence is rare in Oman, a strategically located country at the mouth of the Gulf on the Arabian Peninsula with a predominantly Muslim population.
