Rescue services approached the crash site early Saturday after the helicopter was unable to land due to bad weather conditions. According to the local weather forecast, strong winds, heavy rain are falling and there is a risk of avalanches.
Ivar Bo Nilsson, Nordland police’s head of operations, said: “Police arrived at the scene of the crash at around 01:30 CET (00:30 GMT). Unfortunately, all four people on board the plane were perished”.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash, although their work has been halted due to weather conditions. Work is set to resume as the weather improves.
About 30,000 troops from 27 countries take part in Cold Response, an exercise designed to prepare NATO member states to defend Norway.
