Preliminary 2022-23 E Formula Calendar still leaves some spots to fill, and there are rumors that New York City may no longer be the location of the American race series. Instead, Sam Smith from Race reported that the electric race series could move to St. Petersburg, Florida – a location that currently hosts the IndyCar series.
New York City’s EPrix has been taking place in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn for the past five years, and the county has an option to expand the event over the next five years. However, that relies heavily on a major restructuring of the current Red Hook location – and anyone who’s ever lived in a city knows that local government-approved structural changes can is a difficult task.
Instead, the electric car series is looking to head to Florida to compete on the St. Pete, Florida, which has hosted IndyCar for many years.

Its deal with the specific Brooklyn borough it races to ends this year but it does have an option for the next five events. However, that depends on restructuring the layout of the site it runs on.
If no compromise is found for 2023, a race on a slightly truncated version of the 1.8-mile St Petersburg IndyCar site a week before the IndyCar race takes place in New York as the is the Formula E’s USA circuit.
Race understands that discussions between Formula E and the event’s organizers have begun recently, and the Florida city appreciates the possibility of a race to fill the ‘tbd’ spot in early March that has been previously announced in 2023.

It’s not easy being a Formula E fan in the US, but hosting an event in an established American motorsport venue would be a smart move – and perhaps one a much more logical event than New York City.
