The phrase “get one on your chin” has never been more appropriate in the sport of boxing. Going into Adrian Peterson vs. Le’Veon Bell Boxing exhibition, we already know who the NFL runs better. But now we know who is the better boxer, or at least the one who throws the better punch.
Bell finished Peterson early in the fifth round of this lackluster skirmish, catching AP with a punch to the chin. Honestly, this is a boring fight. That’s what most people expect from two retired footballers stepping into the ring with Nate Robinson’s virtuosity.
Luckily for these guys, no one ended up like Robinson did with Jake Paul. But AP won a seat from a Bell hit in the face. Peterson looked lost as he got up and staggered a bit causing the referee to call the fight. Twitter wasted little time posting meme shots of kids celebrating their Peterson knockout win.

Honestly, Peterson got it. The real victim here is the retired NFL’s future running backwards. Last December, Frank Gore made boxing debut and crashed by a basketball player. That hurt Gore in many ways. Speaking of former professional players, former Laker Nick “Swaggy P” Young was knocked out in his match with the same card.
For Bell and Peterson, there is much work to be done if they intend to continue this “boxing” path. This was definitely a fight that everyone checked out of curiosity. There’s not a lot of action and the technique of both is flawed. But that was expected to go from sport to sport.
The only other action in this match other than the KO in the fifth round was when AP tagged Bell with an attack, sending him to the frame. Anyone who wants to go back and watch this fight, all you need to watch is the second and fifth innings. The rest is a lot of walking around and spooky punches.
Now we wait to see who is the next retired RB to jump into the boxing ring. Peterson probably believes he still has an NFL slot. Looks like that ship has sailed, and Bell announced over the summer that he’s taking a break from the 2022 season to focus on boxing. Life in the NFL is probably a thing of the past for Peterson and Bell, whether they choose to accept it or not
