Former South Korean Defense Minister attempted to commit suicide
An official said former South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, who took full responsibility for the president’s failed attempt to place the country under martial law last week, tried take his own life.
Shin Yong-hae, head of the Justice Ministry’s corrections service, told lawmakers that authorities found him attempting the act at the detention center on Thursday night. Three.
Following Yoon’s shocking martial law order, Kim resigned last week along with other senior presidential officials.
He was detained on Sunday for investigation, before being formally arrested for rioting.

Mr. Kim is one of the top officials facing investigations over their role in Mr. Yoon’s short-term martial law order, which sparked widespread outrage in South Korea.
Tens of thousands of people took to the streets calling for the president’s resignation or impeachment.
Yoon is also under investigation for alleged insurrection. Although he apologized for declaring martial law, he refused to accept growing calls for him to resign.
Mr Kim, who was appointed defense minister in September, said he apologized “deeply” in a statement on Tuesday and said “all responsibility for this situation belongs solely to me”.
