Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers is already one of the NFL’s top young defenders heading into his third season.
Every ESPN Statistically, Herbert finished the 2021 campaign just behind Tampa Bay Buccaneers star signal caller Tom Brady with 5,014 yards of passing. The 24-year-old is also third overall with 38 touchdowns in the air and with a QBR total of 65.6.
Few have questioned Herbert’s arm talent, and Chargers head coach Brandon Staley explain back in June that the third-year professional had made “tremendous progress” this past season in becoming a locker room leader. For a video shared this week by Team 33former NFL head coach and offensive coordinator Mike Martz went as far as to compare Herbert to none other than the seven-time Super Bowl champion considered GOAT at the position.
“Justin is there early in the morning with the coaches. He stays at the latest they will let him. He just wants to be the best quarterback in the National Football League,” Martz said. while comparing Herbert to Brady. “It was just who he was.
“When you get a guy who has all the talents, there’s no cons to him. When you get that commitment from him and he’s humble and humble, and he’s one. That flaming competitor has that great skill, there’s really nothing he can’t do. And he’s young.”
Martz also said that Herbert’s accuracy reminded him of something he had seen from Hall of Famer Kurt Warner.
“He has great touch, predictability, he puts the ball there when he needs it,” Martz continued of Herbert. “This guy can’t leave.”
Herbert admit Earlier this summer, Chargers needed more “consistent” to be able to qualify for the knockout stages for next season. His continued improvement both on and off the field could see Los Angeles play more than just a few meaningful games in January 2023.
