HBO takes on Naughty Dog’s shroomocalyptic series Our Last has been hailed by critics as the best video game adaptation ever, but the show’s co-creator doesn’t think both games can be put into a single season. . Craig Mazin discuss his hopes for the TV version of The Last Of Us as a guest on an upcoming episode of The Playlist Podcast. Mazin seemed to think that the second game would have to span several seasons, like the tendons of an infected person.
“We covered quite a few first games in this first season. The rest of the material is a bit more involved and quite extensive than the first game,” said Mazin. “There’s really no way to tell the story of the second game in a season. And when you watch how we’re adapting ‘The Last of Us’ this season, you can see that it’s not just the story there, sometimes it’s other stories we want to tell.
“We really want the freedom to do the right thing,” explains Mazin. “One thing I emphasize is never boring the viewers and never releasing sub-episodes. They have to stand on their own and always convince – always! But I think as we move on, the rest of it can’t be told in just one season.”
The actor who plays Ellie, Bella Ramsey, also hopes that The Last Of Us will get a refresh for at least one more season. Ramsey said earlier this week that she thinks a Season 2 for the show is “very likely”, but that is ultimately the decision of the broadcasters.
However, Naughty Dog may not extend the source material with The Last Of Us Part III. Studio Co-Chair Neil Druckmann explain this week that they don’t feel pressured by Sony to develop any further The Last Of Us sequels. “If we can’t think of something, we’re going to have a very strong ending with Season 2 and that’s going to be the end,” Druckmann said. He also revealed that Naughty Dog is “continuing” from the Uncharted series.
