Forget the economy: Central banks will only care about inflation
Even a tough economy won’t stop central banks from prioritizing their inflation mandates.
On Thursday, Bank of England pushes interest rates up rose 0.5 percentage points to 1.75% – the strictest monetary policy tightening since 1995. Rate setters say growth in Britain’s consumer price index is now expected will peak at 13% in the final quarter of the year, compared with “a little more than 10%” forecast it made back in May.
