The Ford F-150 Lightning is the first real major trend electric pickup trucks, built for the occasional truck buyer. At least, that’s the idea. WOMENow, Things seem to be trending further away from that, as Ford puts several thousand dollars into the tag price of every all-electric pickup it will produce from here on out.
Lightning Order Book closed a few months agobut ford reopened them today with a twist – every single trim level increases in price. Some have even skyrocketed to the point where they are no longer eligible for Newly updated $7,500 federal tax credit for electric vehicles. Noisy.
The highest percentage increase belongs to base Pro trim$7,000 increase – 17.5% full more than the 2022 model. The highest dollar gain is $8,500 on the XLT Extended Range version. Interestingly, Ford also listed the price for an “XLT High,“A non-existent part in the 2022 model year”.
The dollar amount price increase has remained relatively consistent across trim levels, with gains ranging from $6,500 to $8,500. Percentage increases, naturallydecrease as decoration level price increases.

Remember that the updated federal EV tax credit has an MSRP limit of 80,000 dollars for trucks. While the Platinum was never eligible, the range-extending variants of the XLT and Laries did. Now, they’ve just been pushed over the edge, no longer eligible for the federal spike. Ford may make a few thousand more dollars per truck, but the net cost per Lightning buyer will be significantly higher once the tax credit is gone.
Ford attributed the increase to a “significant increase in material costs and other factors,” without elaborating. Fortunately, existing Lightning pre-orders will be exempt from the price increase, but new customers will still have to pay higher prices.
