Ford Motor Company will report second-quarter earnings shortly after US markets close today.

Here’s what Wall Street is expecting.

  • Adjusted earnings per share: $0.45, according to Refinitiv estimates.
  • Car revenue: $34.30 billion, according to Refinitiv estimates.

Both would be significant improvements from Ford’s results in the second quarter of 2021as it reported adjusted EPS of just $0.13 on auto sales of $24.13 billion amid supply chain disruptions that have forced its assembly lines into prolonged shutdowns. .

Both will also represent incremental profits from last quarterwhen Ford generated adjusted EPS of $0.38 on auto sales of $32.1 billion.

Ford’s U.S. sales rose 1.8 percent in the second quarter from a year ago, helped by sales of Ford-brand SUVs and crossovers that grew 8% year-over-year as the company can build more popular models for US Dealers. That could be good news for the company’s profit margins, as that increased SUV sales largely replace Ford’s sales of now discontinued and less profitable models.

China can affect the company’s results. Ford, like other automakers, has been hit hard by Covid-related disruptions in the world’s largest new car market. Ford’s China sales drop 22% in the second quarterwith about 120,000 vehicles, amid government-mandated shutdowns near Shanghai and other parts of eastern China.

However, investors may be more focused on Ford’s future. The company is in the midst of a major restructuring, dedicating more resources to electric vehicles and cutting $3 billion in annual costs from internal combustion development efforts.

Ford said last week that it has 100% battery supply guarantee they will need to deliver electric vehicles at a rate of 600,000 vehicles per year by the end of 2023 and are on track to build 2 million vehicles per year by 2026. But they have yet to share more details about the organizational changes they are making intends to do on the aspect of internal combustion, moves that could put thousands of US jobs at risk.
