For Karnataka Elections, BJP Won’t Go With Gujarat Formula: Sources

BJP has a plan to deal with MLAs that pass Congress and HD Kumaraswamy’s JDS.

New Delhi:

The BJP is suspending its usual electoral model for Karnataka, recognizing a different polity and way of voting. Sources indicate that the departure from the norm – currently taking place in central Hindi and in Gujarat – is expected to have an effect in the southern state, where the party is hoping for a second consecutive term. next. Council elections will take place in the state in May.

Sources say the party will implement most of its existing MLAs, given the fact that most leaders have their own vote banks and support groups, no matter what party they belong to. .

Elsewhere, the BJP is always cutting back on its existing MLAs, leading with new faces and then a new set of ministers to avoid any opposition. Accordingly, there were requirements that the same model be followed in Karnataka. Relatives of MLAs are also not allowed to receive tickets, many leaders have requested.

But the party think tank has pointed out that the political situation in Karnataka is different from that in Gujarat. There are more than 120 seats in which leaders won elections because of their personal influence. In the event that they are denied tickets, they will not hesitate to change sides, the sources said.

Yeddiyurappa said up to six or seven MLAs could be eliminated in the 224-member house. Some are almost 75 years old and some are not well. They may be denied tickets. but will have their say in the selection of candidates.

The BJP’s Gujarat electoral formula also has some serious consequences. After dropping 42 MLAs sitting in Gujarat and 11 and Himachal Pradesh ahead of recent parliamentary polls, the party faces uprisings in both states.

There are also elaborate plans to deal with MLAs transferring from other parties ahead of the elections, particularly from Congress and HD Kumaraswamy’s Janata Dal Secular. Sources said anyone who crosses will be removed from their current seats.

The BJP is counting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as the personal support of their state leaders in their respective constituencies to return to power. The key strategist will still be former Minister BS Yeddiyurappa, who has promised to work hard to ensure Prime Minister Modi stays in office after the 2024 election.

Mr Yeddiyurappa is not running this time and will work behind the scenes. His young son BY Vijayendra can run from his seat Shikaripura. The BJP has so far been unwilling to give Mr Vijayendra a ticket or party post to avoid accusations of dynastic politics.

Prime Minister Modi, who has visited Karnataka six times this year, is expected to visit the state twice this month. He is scheduled to speak at a major rally in Davangere on March 25, concluding four Vijay Sankalp Rallies. Before that, there could be a state tour of government programs on March 19 or 21.

Interior Minister Amit Shah will be in Karnataka on March 23-24. Sources say BJP President JP Nadda will also visit the state.
