For Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain, In Jail Since June, Setback In Court


The 58-year-old minister of Delhi was arrested on May 30.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyendra Jain’s plea for bail was dismissed by a Delhi court today in an alleged money laundering case.

Besides Mr. Jain’s confession, the bail applications of two accomplices in the case – Vaibhav Jain and Ankush Jain – were also rejected by the court.

The 58-year-old minister of Delhi was arrested by the Director of Enforcement on May 30. Investigating Authority initiated a money laundering investigation in this case on the basis of a First Information Report or FIR issued by the CBI. Registered on August 24, 2017.

Opposing Mr. Jain’s bail application, ED told the court that Satyender Jain had deceived the agency and was uncooperative.

Earlier this week, the Director of Delhi’s Tihar Prison – where Mr Jain is being held – was suspended for alleged special treatment of the minister.

The action was taken after the ED submitted CCTV footage in court alleging that Mr Jain was living a lavish lifestyle in prison and influencing the investigation by regularly meeting with his accomplices in the case. . Investigators also alleged that Satyendar Jain’s wife, Poonam Jain, regularly visited him in his cell, which was against prison guidelines.
