Food technology: Google’s new robot can get soft drinks and chips for employees

In the post-pandemic era, working in an office can really be a daunting task. We all have busy days in the office when we have loads of work and don’t even have time for a quick lunch. On days like these, how wonderful would it be if someone just brought a pack of chips or a bottle of soda to our desks? Tech giant Google has planned to do exactly this with its latest team of robots. Alphabet Inc. created a new ‘mechanical waiter’ that can follow simple commands and also participate in conversations like a virtual chatbot. Watch the video here:

Google is combining the physical prowess of a robot with the chat training skills of a virtual chatbot. The resulting robot can help employees delegate the task of picking up snacks from break rooms with ease. These waiters have a breakthrough in artificial intelligence that allows them to perform multiple tasks, visionary robots can only perform a single task. They interpret voice commands, break them down into smaller steps, and compare actions with possibilities. They are trained in how to use Wikipedia, social networks, and other sites suitable for learning language technology.

The robots are being designed by Alphabet Inc’s subsidiary called ‘Everyday Robots’. Currently, they are restricted to corporate use for snacks and are not available for commercial use. “It will be a while before we can really be sure of the direct commercial impact,” said Vincent Vanhoucke, senior director of robotics research at Google.
