Mumbai:
Two passengers on a Dubai-Mumbai IndiGo flight have been arrested for allegedly abusing crew and co-passengers while intoxicated, a police official said on Thursday.
They were arrested after the flight landed in Mumbai on Wednesday and were granted bail by the court, the official said.
“The two defendants were from Nalasopara in Palghar and Kolhapur. They returned from a year of work in the Gulf and started celebrating by drinking alcohol bought from a duty-free shop,” he said.
“When fellow passengers protested the commotion, two abused them and the crew intervened. One of them was drinking while walking down the aisle. The crew took their bottles of alcohol.” , the official added.
They were fined under section 336 of Indian Penal Code (for endangering life and safety of others) and articles 21,22 and 25 of Airplane Rules, Sahar police station official said.
According to officials, this is the seventh incident this year where a case has been filed for unruly behavior by flyers.
On March 11, a man was arrested for smoking in the toilet and trying to open the emergency exit of a London-Mumbai flight.
