Five types of synthetic fuels can replace gasoline and diesel
Last week, the Italian supercar maker Lamborghini announces plans to start its own synthetic fuel research. This follows Similar move from VW Group stable friend Porsche, as well as a bunch of oil companies, all seek to clean up their actions (or their image). But what are synthetic fuels, how do they work, and most the important thing is that they can really save the internal combustion engine?
Scientifically speaking, Synthetic fuels are artificially produced alternatives by convention gasoline or diesel. In it simplest forma synthetic fuel is made by combining hydrogen and carbon atom to make a compound called an alkene – usually ethene, containing two carbon atoms and four hydrogen atoms.
But there’s a lot of variation in how individual companies move toward a possible final product pumped into your vehicle’s fuel tank. And if you go for synthetic fuels, yes Now, you may find some using chemical mind-shaping processes and others starting as a literal load of old garbage.
BILLIONo try and unravel this sci-fi technology, we’ve selected five particularly exciting synthetic fuel projects to follow in the coming years.
