Microsoft has announced that it will increase the price of first-party Xbox Series X/S games to $70 starting in 2023.
IGN first confirmed the news, with a Microsoft spokesperson telling the outlet that “These prices reflect the content, scale, and technical complexity of these titles.” First-party Xbox Series X/S games like Starfield, Redfall, and Forza Motorsport will be the first titles with a $70 price tag when they launch next year. Xbox Game Pass pricing doesn’t appear to be affected, and a Microsoft spokesperson went on to say: “Like all games developed by our team at Xbox, they will also be available with Game Pass on the same day.” debut.”
Due to the increasing cost of triple-A game development, the price increase is only a matter of time. In a face-to-face interview in October with The Wall Street Journal, the head of Microsoft Phil Spencer said so when he stated that the company cannot keep the price of its products forever. “I think at some point we’re going to have to raise prices on some items, but going into this holiday season, we think it’s important to maintain prices.”
Sony was the first console maker to charge $70 for PlayStation 5 first-party services at the start of this generation.
