First official photo of King and Queen Consort alongside Prince and Princess of Wales released | UK News



Buckingham Palace has released the first official photograph of the King and Queen standing next to the new Prince and Duchess of Wales.

The photo was taken at the palace as the king and his wife joined William and Kate at a reception for heads of state and official guests abroad.

With all four of them dressed in black, the event was held on Sunday, September 18 – the night before Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

It has been described as the King’s first major state event, and one of the largest gatherings of world leaders and global political figures the palace has ever hosted.

The photo highlights the support the Prince and Princess of Wales have given the King and Queen in the weeks since Queen Elizabeth II’s death.

In a tribute to his grandmother, Prince William said: “I will honor her memory by supporting my father, the King, in any way I can.”

The photo was taken at a reception featuring a high-profile guest list of presidents, prime ministers and royals from around the world.

US President Joe Biden and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron were among about 500 people in the main rooms of the palace.

Dozens of leaders of Commonwealth countries and members of foreign royal families also attended the reception.

The event took place on the Queen’s last day in state at Westminster Hall.

The photo was released on the day it was confirmed The King will not attend COP27The United Nations climate conference will be held in Egypt in November.

There has been speculation that the King, who has been an ardent campaigner on environmental issues, will attend event in Sharm el Sheikh, this was his first trip abroad since becoming king.
