First look inside the new 2022 Renault Austral SUV

The official interior shot of the all-new 2022 Renault Austral SUV has been released by the French brand, telling us what to expect when replacing the Kadjar released later this year.

The Austral SUV has a very sleek interior design, with ambient lighting creating an impressive feature. It will come with a large 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster attached to a vertical 12-inch infotainment screen. Renault call ‘OpenR’, located in the center of the dash.

OpenR Link interface included Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, plus Google search and Google Maps. Renault claims the system is one of the “biggest breakthroughs in in-vehicle technology in the past few years”.

The panel’s architecture gives it a slim and wide look; The steering wheel is squarer and slightly flatter in the center, giving the driver an unobstructed view of the dashboard display.

There seems to be a lot of storage areas, starting with the wide sliding armrest in the center, while the dashboard itself has two large storage areas and one for smartphones, complete with wireless charging capabilities. There will also be an additional 30 liters of cargo space on the passenger side.

The spacious space theme continues into the rear as there is no transmission tunnel, allowing for more legroom for passengers in the middle seat. The rear bench can then be slid backwards and forwards to alter boot space or rear legroom as needed, and folds down with the push of a button in the boot.

Agneta Dahlgren, Renault Design Project Manager, said: “When we created the Austral’s passenger compartment, three repeating themes were space awareness, edgy design and a sense of protection – and all All of that is based on high quality standards.”

Renault has also confirmed that Austral is in final development, with a focus on fine-tuning the engine lineup and reliability.

“Development is being completed with final tests on the new CMF-CD3 platform and all-electric engine options,” a spokesman said. The brand has confirmed that this means a fully electrified lineup featuring E-Tech mild-hybrid and hybrid units, rather than a full EV version.

A fleet of around 100 test cars and a fleet of 900 drivers will perform ‘validation runs’ that will total 600,000 km (about 373,000 miles) on the open road and the remaining 1.4 million km (870,000 miles) complete. on the test track.

According to Renault: “These tests will allow teams to approve adjustments to be made to the new CMF-CD3 platform and driver assistance systems, as well as to sound insulation and suspension comfort. so that customers can enjoy the best possible conditions. . ”

Model, will compete with Ford Kuga, Nissan qashqai and Volkswagen Tiguan, which is expected to be unveiled in late 2022. It will draw design inspiration from Renault’s Megane E-Tech electric hatchback. Indeed, details such as the slim, high-mounted LED headlights, the clamshell bonnet and the curved front end are all similar.

The greenhouse is smaller than Kadjar’s but larger than Megane E-Tech’s, in keeping with Austral’s positioning as the taller, diagonal-bodied version of Megane.

Meanwhile, the rear of the growing car features a large version of Renault’s recently redesigned retro-inspired 2D badging in the center of the rear doors; Sloping window lines, slim taillights and a thick lower bumper are also present.

The Renault Austral SUV is expected to go on sale in Europe this spring, so this could very well be the last trailer we see ahead of the launch date.
