Financial ramifications of Watson’s one-year ban revealed
After an extensive investigation, an independent arbitrator proposed suspension of six games to Deshaun Watson on allegations of sexual assault. Predictably, the NFL has quickly to appeal that proposal.
After the call of the tournament, Watson and his agent reportedly proposed a counter-offer. Instead of accepting the one-year suspension, which is what the NFL is looking for, the Cleveland Browns quarterback said he’s willing to accept an eight-game suspension. That would include being subject to a $5 million fine.
There’s a specific reason Watson is looking to avoid a one-year suspension and it has nothing to do with hurting the Browns in 2022. Instead, it has to do with everything to do with his contract. and the potential money lost.
