Final Fantasy XIV’s online director is keen to see Square Enix’s MMO on a “Nintendo platform”
The Switch has an extensive game library that includes all kinds of franchises, and while it has a lot The ultimate illusion titles today, one game that is still missing from this particular series is Square Enix’s (and very successful) multiplayer role-playing game Final Fantasy XIV online. So will we ever see it on a Nintendo system?
Game director and producer Naoki Yoshida (also known as Yoshi-P) was recently asked by Easy Allies about Nintendo’s possible release and mentioned that he would like to see the game available on as many devices as possible in the long run. This appears to include Nintendo hardware, and at this rate, The new target could be the “successor” of the Switch.
According to Yoshida, allowing players to play this online Final Fantasy game on any device and a future release on Nintendo platforms is something he would really “like” to see happen. Here’s exactly what he said (via Nintendo Everything):
“My dream or goal for over 10 years at this point has been for players to be able to play Final Fantasy XIV regardless of device and be able to access the servers to access the same world. …we’ve been talking for years about bringing this game to the Xbox platform, and so of course we really want our title to be on the Nintendo platform and we want to continue our efforts. But it’s taken a long time – with Xbox we’ve actually been talking for years and now it’s finally happening. We will try our best and keep working hard and keep making efforts. Ultimately, it will be cool – something we want to explore and make happen one day.”
Again, it seems like us maybe will not be able to see Final Fantasy XIV Online in the current Nintendo generation. Even if it did happen, based on certain conditions other release, it may be locked to selected regions or delivery methods, such as cloud streaming. For example Dragon Quest X online (exclusive to Japan) and Phantasy Star Online 2 (cloud release on Switch).
Nintendo has also mentioned it now Its Switch “successor” will be revealed this fiscal yearso this comment may have taken into account Nintendo’s future hardware releases.
