Final Fantasy XIV services coming soon

Last month, due to overwhelming queue times to access Final Fantasy XIV’s servers, digital game sales and certain services have been suspended until everything calms down. Now, Square Enix is preparing to allow the creation of new accounts in a few weeks.
According to a developer blog post, January 25th will be the date Final Fantasy XIV’s digital sales resume. The move coincides with planned opening of a new data center in Oceania, bringing in five new worlds, in the hope of easing congestion on other worlds. It also means that the suspended World Home Service will also return on January 25, allowing players to take their characters to these new servers or elsewhere, except any limits on worlds that are still overpopulated. The often-remembered free trial for FFXIV will continue to be frozen for the time being.
Also on this board is the Data Center Travel System, which extends the player’s ability to other worlds to play with friends or on quests/etc Currently, a similar functionality is already in the game , but only gives you access to worlds that share a data center with your character’s home world. However, with the new Data Center Travel System, you will be able to migrate to servers located in a different data center. However, there are some limitations, as listed in the blog post.
- Players will be able to tour Worlds in other logical data centers within the same physical data center.
- Players will not be able to access Worlds in other physical regions/data centers.
- Although it is technically possible to travel between regions, implementation is still under consideration.
- Traveling is not started when logging into the game, but from the character selection screen.
FFXIV Producer Naoki Yoshida said in the post, “there are no limits. Be it doing quests, forming a team, or using Duty Finder, you should be able to play the game as you normally would.” However, some communication services will not be available when you move to another data center, so arrange another means to chat with your Free Company or world friends if need.
Other data centers around the globe also plan to update in the coming months and years, allowing more players to play at the same time. You can read all about those expansions in developer blog post here.
