MANILA, Philippines—The Philippines women’s soccer team competing at the FIFA World Cup will be among the country’s best contenders for a gold medal in the Games Upcoming Southeast Asia in Cambodia.

During a forum of the Philippine Sports Writing Association (PSA) on Tuesday at Rizal Memorial Stadium, Philippine football secretary general Atty. Ed Gastanes said the Filipinos have a “very real chance” to win championships in the upcoming regional tournaments.

He said: “Right now, we have a very real opportunity for our national women’s soccer team at the Cambodia Olympics with our thoughtful preparation and dedicated and competent coaching staff. we.

“After the Filipinos took over AFF Women’s Football Championship Last year, they were really looking forward to winning another medal, if not a gold one,” he added.

The Philippine team under the guidance of the coach Alen Stajcichave achieved many historic victories, making them a team to count on next May.

A year ago, the Philippines team qualified for the FIFA World Cup after beating Chinese Taipei in a penalty shootout 4-3. Months later, that same team won the AFF Women’s Championship in front of a boisterous hometown crowd in Manila 3-0 against Thailand.

Among the athletes participating in the SEA Games is Vietnam, the reigning champion of women’s football at the SEA Games.

With his confidence in the historic team, Gastanes went as far as to say that he was expecting to see both nations go head-to-head in the final.

“The SEA Games women’s soccer final will be another historic event for us,” he said.

In addition to the regional event in Cambodia, the Filipinos will also compete in several other tournaments.

Next month, the female athletes will travel to Spain to compete for the Pinatar Cup. There will also be women’s Olympic qualifying for the 2024 Paris Games starting in April. They will face Pakistan, Tajikistan and Hong Kong in table E.
